Lazy Lizard - Legends, Laughter and Love
email this pageprint this pageemail usJOY! - PVNN

The 13 young men from Axe Capoeira put on an amazing performance to raise money for the R.I.S.E. kids. Capoeira is a spectacular martial art dance form that includes Brazilian chanting, fascinating musical instruments and an enormous amount of skill.
Axe Capoeira's amazing half-time show added to the excitment at this week's Lazy Lizard Charity Bingo Night, where an additional $4600 pesos were raised, bringing the three-week total of funds donated to R.I.S.E. to more than $15,000 pesos.

Some legends start smaller than others. This one can fit in your palm and is used to hold extremely precious packages, crown jewels even.

Len began the legend when he auctioned off the sexy little starred Blu suit he was wearing as he called the numbers at his bingo debut. Marcie, bless her generous heart, paid $500 pesos for the suit, and then donated it back, thus beginning the Blu Suit Bingo Legend.

Andre wasn't too sure about fitting into this – the legend, not the suit, he fitted into that unreasonably well... However, he's a shy fellow, normally unassuming, and waltzing about in a little starred Blu Suit isn't his idea of a good time. But he's also a good sport, so he did it for the kids.

R.I.S.E. presented Parry with a lovely plaque for helping raise all this money for the kids.

Andre and Joey pair up to call double bingo winners for the first four games.

Since the boys had to leave after the half time show, Len finished calling out the numbers and auctioned off the suit.
Len was the first to offer up his pesos, uncertain as to how much more could actually fit in to the suit while Andre was wearing it. Quite a bit more was the answer, Andre raised $860 pesos on his 'walk of Blu Star fame.' Goodonya mate.

Since the boys had to leave after the half time show, Len finished calling out the numbers and auctioned off the suit. Another good sport, Glen, won the suit and a free hair cut with his $500 peso donation. He signed the suit and, as is now the custom, donated it back again.

Each week, the Blu Suit will be auctioned off, signed by the wearer and purchaser, and donated back again. When it is not at the Lazy Lizard, it will hang in Len's Salon, Blu by Len, as a tribute to the things that the people of Vallarta do to raise money for underprivileged children.

Now, hands up all the dirty minded folk who thought I was putting on strippers this week! Shame on y'all! I never mentioned strippers, I warned you that you will never know what to expect at Lazy Lizard Bingo, and that these boys would put on a show that would leave you gasping.

I wasn't kidding. Capoeira is a spectacular martial art dance form that includes Brazilian chanting, fascinating musical instruments and an enormous amount of skill. The 13 young men from Axe Capoeira put on an amazing performance in bare feet on very challenging uneven ground to raise money for the R.I.S.E. kids.

Andre, Axe Capoeira's master in Vallarta, is big on helping kids. He's working to take kids off the street and teach them Capoeira. The discipline and camaraderie, the range of skills and the love these men, and women – Capoeira is for girls too – show each other is truly inspiring. Check out their website AxeCapoeira.com if you want to get your kids into something great.

The bingo was called by Andre and Joey, who at eleven is the youngest Capoeira in the group. They obviously had some pretty wild pair energy going, because the first four games had double winners! George from San Francisco was a lucky winner in the first two games.

R.I.S.E. presented Parry with a lovely plaque for helping raise all this money for the kids. This week's $4600 pesos brought the total to more than $15,000 pesos raised after just three nights of Bingo - during low season!

Julie, champion of children's causes, and soon to be famous author of My Downs Syndrome Life, celebrated her 37th birthday by dancing with Len, while wearing the beautiful earrings Glen had just won and given to her as a birthday present. And that was all it took to started the dancing that was the perfect ending to this "feel good" night.

Charity Bingo takes place every Thursday night at 7 pm at the Lazy Lizard on Puerto Vallarta's famous Los Muertos Beach - so mark it on your calendar right now! Next week Debbi from Choco Banana has planned a July 5th "Americans Bring Independence to R.I.S.E." party – goodness only knows what she's going to do with the Blu suit! Come early, it's always a packed house.

Waltzing about in a little starred Blu Suit isn't Andre's idea of a good time. But he's also a good sport, so he did it for the kids.

Marcie won the first Lazy Lizard L.
