The New Year brings big-name and local performers in colorful musical productions to Puerto Vallarta. Don't miss this season's lineup of great shows at Vallarta's most popular entertainment venue, the Santa Barbara Theater.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow
Fans of Denver actress Alex Ryer - she´s back in Puerto Vallarta for the fifth time - will get to know her even better as she reminisces in Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow at Santa Barbara Theater on Thursdays at 8 pm during January. She reminisces about her own journey through the music that inspired her. Alex says, "I am sharing my creative journey, filled with the passion of a well-lived and well-loved life."

As herself, this is an opportunity to understand what has touched her heart and guided her 30-year-career as an international performer. In Vallarta, she's moaned in The Vagina Monologues, made a memorable impact as Edith Piaf, and musically reviewed the life and music of Peggy Lee. This time, Alex features the music of Joni Mitchell, Carol King and Kenny Loggins, jazz, blues, and musical theater selections by Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim.

The Bright, Buxom, Brazen Beauties of Early Broadway
Then, on Saturdays through February 3rd, Alex Ryer brings a bawdy salute to three "Red Hot Mama's" of the 20's and 30's, The Bright, Buxom, Brazen Beauties of Early Broadway - Sophie Tucker, Mae West and Fanny Brice. "Songs and humor will be a little naughty," Alex says. After all, Mae West said, "Good girls go to heaven, but bad girls go everywhere."

The Phantom
Broadway entertainer Sol Rose is back with the return of The Phantom at 9 pm on January 29th at Santa Barbara Theater. It is a multi-media production with the large screen 35mm of the 1929 color re-issue of the 1925 Lon Chaney classic film. Sol explains, "This is the finest existing version of the film featuring a magnificent orchestral score by Carl Davis and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. The film institute was able to restore the stunning Technicolor bal masque sequence and has painstakingly re-created the Handschiegl color process used in the famous Apollo's lyre scene on the roof of the Paris Opera House." The Andrew Lloyd Webber Broadway score is sung by Sol Rose, tenor, and Kathy Overly, soprano, with Christopher May on violin.

Dolly Would If Kenny Could
Local performers Graciela and Paco Ringness provide a tongue-in-cheek salute to pop-country recording stars Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. The show is filled with Parton and Rogers hit songs, running now on Wednesdays at 8 pm.

Siempre Sol
In February, Sol Rose will reprise Las Vegas-style Siempre Sol, by popular request, on one night, Sunday, February 3rd, at 8 pm.

Stop The World... (London Version)
Then Sol Rose returns as Little Chap in the original London production of Stop The World, I Want To Get Off on Saturday, February 16th, 23rd, March 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd at 8 pm. Performing with Sol are Patrice White, Kathy Overly and Christopher May.

Those Sassy Sixties
Also coming up in February is a musical show by the 14-member Quesa Divas, Those Sassy Sixties - A Midlife Romp Through Rock and Roll. Directed by Norma Schuh, it debuts on February 14th, continuing on February 19th, 21st, 26th, 28th and March 4th at 8 pm.

"The music of the ´50´s and ´60´s is featured along with dialog and music exploring all kinds of love throughout all life stages," Norma explains. Nick Salmans, 30-year director of chorale groups, is music director.
