Celebrating Life and Love in San Pancho
email this pageprint this pageemail usJOY! - PVNN

The love of one person for another is the core of human existence and a foundation that creates the bonds of a community, so the friends and family who had gathered to celebrate the union were invited to individually place their blessings and good wishes into a specially woven cord.

When Brian goes back to school in San Diego, and his friends ask him what he did for his 16th birthday, he will be able, if perhaps unlikely, to say "I assisted a New Zealand Shaman at a gay wedding in an Arabic building on the Mexican Riviera!"

I can tell you he did an excellent job helping organize the entire service, which was conducted in both English and Spanish.

Fabio and Alejandro's wedding began with the words of George Eliot's To Be One With Each Other:

What greater thing is there for two human souls
than to feel that they are joined together
to strengthen each other in all labor,
to minister to each other in all sorrow,
to share with each other in all gladness,
to be one with each other in the silent unspoken memories?

A beautiful combination of rituals was chosen from different faiths to create the ceremony presided over by Reverend JOY! The wedding was held at sunset on Jan 5th at Villas Paradise fabulous Penthouse in Costa Azul, San Pancho.

Fabio and Alejandro whispered their vows privately to each other Jewish style as an intimate promise to last the test of time.

The rings were blessed and consecrated with earth, fire air and water in Shamanic ritual, then given and received as a symbol of the promises made and the union created.

The love of one person for another is the core of human existence and a foundation that creates the bonds of a community, so the friends and family who had gathered to celebrate the union were invited to individually place their blessings and good wishes into a specially woven cord while Rev JOY sang Amazing Grace.

Fabio and Alejandro were then handfasted in pagan style: As the rings symbolizes their endless love for each other, so the cord represents the binding of their two lives into one. From this day they walk together in the world, hand in hand, for better or worse, for richer or poorer in sickness and in health.

The couple then made their public vows and sealed them with a kiss.

This was followed by a summoning of the Four Directions to bless the union:

Blessed be this union with the gifts of the East.
Communication of the heart, mind, and body
Fresh beginnings with the rising of each Sun.
The knowledge of the growth found in the sharing of silences.

Blessed be this union with the gifts of the South.
Warmth of hearth and home
The heat of the heart's passion
The light created by both to illuminate the darkest of times.

Blessed be this union with the gifts of the West.
The deep commitments of the lake The swift excitement of the river
The refreshing cleansing of the rain
The all encompassing passion of the sea.

Blessed be this union with the gifts of the North
Firm foundation on which to build
Fertility of the fields to enrich your lives
A stable home to which you may always return.

Finally the newly married couple; partners in life, for life, were formally introduced to the congregation; photos were taken against a spectacular sunset as whales breached offshore adding Neptune's blessing to the proceedings.

The surroundings were extravagant in the extreme, the buffet was delicious, and the entertainment was exceptional – Mikki Prost presented excerpts from her infamous one woman show, and teamed up with Ian in a selection of very sexy dances that had everyone roaring for more.

Brian had Happy Birthday sung to him in five different languages, and everyone danced till they dropped. Fortunately the penthouse was a three bedroom 13,000 square foot space so there was plenty of room for sleepovers, and the chance to enjoy the beauty of San Pancho the next day.

Congratulations Fabio and Alejandro!
