While in Puerto Vallarta to host the 2008 UjENA Image Awards show at the NH Krystal Hotel on August 31st, former UjENA pageant winner, Hollywood actress and entrepreneur, Kristina Hughes, and her partner, comedian Brian Vermeire, were the first guest speakers at the Children of the Dump School of Champions new Career Exploration program.

The brainchild of local business woman and Children of the Dump volunteer, Robin Noelle, the goal of the Career Exploration program is to open the minds of the children to the many possibilities that are available to them if they continue with their educations.

The program invites entrepreneurs, celebrities and local business people to tour the School of Champions and then meet with the children in an informal setting to talk about their careers and what types of education and training it takes to be successful in their specialized field - which is right up Kristina's alley.

A New England native, Ms. Hughes is a firm believer that through hard work and perseverance one's acting career can flourish to "expected heights" while unveiling "unexpected roles."

Kristina is also an avid philanthropist, who has donated her time and money to dozens of organizations through HoldonLog.com, and she personally sponsors The Humane Society of the United States.

In hopes of inspiring others to get involved with COTD and other charities around the world, Robin and Brian plan to write about their experience at the Children of the Dump's School of Champions in the Holdon Log newsletter, which reaches 20,000 people in the entertainment community each month.

The Children of the Dump was founded in 1998, originally as Feed the Children Vallarta. Through private donations, the program feeds more than 2,300 children daily, operates nine day care centers and an after-school program for grades 3 through 6; teaching them English, math and computers. The goal of the Children of the Dump is to ensure education through grade nine and to educate the children of Puerto Vallarta in the skills necessary to rise above poverty.
