Transcript: Weekend Beat 18 October

Hi, I'm Twila Crawford with some of the headlines in Banderas Bay area this week.

Despite an economic crises, the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board emphasizes positive prospects for the upcoming tourist season. There will still be plenty of events, celebrations, and good fun. Many of the details can be found right HERE on Banderas News.

Local author, Bob Lamb, will be out and about promoting his new book of short stories, Lone Tree. It's about the landscape and lifestyles of Americans surviving The Great Depression in Lone Tree, Indiana. Through his wry written sagas, there are priceless gems of life, which give us pearls of wisdom relevant to every generation. The book may be ordered at Amazon.com.

Dust off the sculptures. Art galleries are opening again. On the south side of Vallarta, Galleria Dante features artists in residence, called Open Studios. In other words, you can watch the artists paint almost any time Monday thru Friday, 10 am to 5 pm.

While walking through the airport, check out the display, Ports of Art, which features local artists. Ports of Art provides opportunities for them to display their work in an open venue and to increase the public's awareness of the beauty and necessity of art. Ports of Art supports various programs for children in the area.

In other artsy news, the Navy Museum hosts a sculpture exhibition, called Evocations. The pieces were created by graduates of the Cuale Cultural Center Sculpture Workshop. The display runs until Sunday, October 26.

The Vallarta Orchid Society meets Saturday, October 25, at the stunningly beautiful Botanical Gardens, south of town. The topic is Fragrant Orchids.

Lending a helping hand. The Casa Magna Marriott is launching a six-month hospitality training program for young people from challenging backgrounds. Nine trainees are gaining skills to help them secure employment that otherwise might be limited to them.

A new restaurant has opened on Los Muertos Beach. At Marazul enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner, open from 8 AM until Midnight. The dinner menu is primarily seafood. For reservations, call (322) 222-1840.

The film, Beverly Hills Chihuahua, is reported as doing well at the box office. Some of it was filmed here and elsewhere in Mexico. See it at local theaters.

It's just wonderful to see friends and familiar faces returning to the Vallarta area. Most restaurants and stores are re-opening after much needed vacations.

You've been watching Weekend Beat on Puerto Vallarta`s Liveliest Website, BanderasNews.com. This is the only information-based site in the Bay. New stories are added every day, along with video reports. So check with us often. In Puerto Vallarta, I'm Twila Crawford for Weekend Beat.
