Architect Francisco Marugan Designs Sally's Corner

Francisco Marugan, an architect and a watercolor artist, graduated from the Madrid's School of Architecture.
Architect Francisco Marugan donated his design work for Sally's Corner at the children's section of the Los Mangos Public Library in Puerto Vallarta. Sally's Corner is in memory of library board member Sally Conley, who also had her own children's library. Sally donated a great amount of time to the English section at the library.

Francisco says, "It had to be ready and approved to be shown to the public prior to Sally's Memorial on February 28." He last saw Sally at her fundraiser for her children's library. Maureen's and Francisco's daughter, who has Asperger's Syndrome, and is bilingual, helped Sally once a week with the children. "Sally was great to her."

"The idea for the 'corner' came using the most important elements of Sally's library," Francisco explains. The three elements are (1) a colonial-Mexican portal or entrance, (2) the "amazing" fig tree, higuera, at the patio, and (3) the arched shelving feature of the library itself in the back.

The architect explains, "In the interior Phase I, these elements are incorporated in one corner of the children's area, acting as a focal point, but also as a magic space within the space. In the exterior Phase II, the magic will continue, creating a quiet reading space for the children outside, on top of the existing storage room. The access will be provided by a flight of stairs inside."

Francisco, an architect and a watercolor artist, graduated from the Madrid's School of Architecture. He worked on residential projects in Spain until he moved to the United States. There he was involved in large and complex projects, in particular the entertainment industry (theme parks, hotels, casinos) and various types of corporate architecture.

One of Francisco's passions is painting watercolors, and he has received a number of awards at art shows. Last year, he donated a painting to the Clinica de Rehabilitation. He soon will feature his paintings in an exhibition in Puerto Vallarta.

On April 4, 2009 a very special evening will be held at Villa Mandarinas to raise funds for "Sally's Corner" at Los Mangos Library. For more information, click HERE.
