The fundraiser for Sally's Corner at the Los Mangos Public Library is Saturday, April 4, 5:30 - 10:30 pm at Villa Mandarinas, Mismaloya.
Those of us living here will continue to get questions for sure now.

U.S. President Barack Obama will visit Mexico April 16-17 to meet with President Felipe Calderon. Issues will include, according to a White House statement, "how the United States and Mexico can work together to support Mexico's fight against drug-related violence and work toward effective, comprehensive immigration reform."

This comes at a time, according to Mexico's The News newspaper, of increasing bilateral tension over spiraling drug violence in Mexico and a U.S. decision to ban Mexican trucks from its interior. President Obama's visit "underscores the high priority that both Presidents place on the strengthening of the bilateral relationship."

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano will meet with their Mexican counterparts at an arms trafficking conference at Cuernavaca in early April. The officials will discuss the large flow of weapons from the U.S. into Mexico, used in the drug trade.

Canada also is experiencing the spillover of the drug war as in the U.S. Vancouver, according to Canadian news reports, especially has been experiencing gang violence and a spree of shootings. Reports say almost all cocaine in Canada comes from Mexico.

Whether citizens of the U.S. or Canada, we here are getting a lot of questions about Mexico. With high-powered Obama Administration officials coming into this country, we surely will receive more questions.

In other crime news, Joe William Johnson, a former Puerto Vallarta condo owner, was beaten to death in a downtown Guadalajara home he was restoring. Johnson was interested in architecture and preservation. Authorities are investigating.

On to the life most of us enjoy here. Cassandra Shaw displayed her paintings at Fresca 418, a new restaurant on Basilio Badillo. The paintings, if no longer at the restaurant, are displayed at Cassandra Shaw Jewelry on the same street, including her upstairs gallery. We saw Cathy Von Rohr, whose own art show opened the night before. Her gallery is open Monday-Saturday from 6-9 pm. Tel: (322) 222-5875.

At the exhibition night at Fresca 418, La Bodega de Nina offered excellent wines. Nina Goodhope looked terrific with a lovely outfit. For information about her wines, email nbgoodhope(at)yahoo.com. Cell: 322-289-6434. Fresca 418 has an elegant daily menu for dinner. For reservations, call (322) 222-5703.

Santa Barbara Theater, 351 Olas Altas, continues with community activities and shows. Tel: (322) 223-2048. Broadway Cafe is featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner with shows. Quince Hour from 3:30-6 pm features items for $15 pesos, including drinks and food.

The Deli, V. Carranza 311-B, features take-out meals. The green curry and chicken dish last week was beautifully prepared. The curry was power-packed. To receive notices of the take-out meals, call (322) 223-9523.

Marcia Escontria of Ambiance by Marcia, Constitucion 347, is in Canada for a period of time on family business. Miguel will hold down the store in her absence, and he undoubtedly will enjoy your company, if you stop by. The beautiful scents are always a lure.

Vallarta Verde Eco Fiesta is this Sunday in Paso Ancho at La Huerta Restaurant. The fiesta is from 2 pm - midnight with many music groups performing and with ecological information available.

The fundraiser for Sally's Corner at the Los Mangos Public Library is Saturday, April 4, 5:30 - 10:30 pm at Villa Mandarinas, Mismaloya. Tickets can be purchased at the library or at Cassandra Shaw's Jewelry on Basilio Badillo. Transportation is included.
