Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Aid to Families of Children With Cancer (AFCC) is an organization that supports families who have a child diagnosed with cancer in the Puerto Vallarta region. The organization receives no government funding so relies solely on donations from private donors, community organizations, and fundraisers. All money donated goes directly to the families of children with cancer.

A child diagnosed with cancer impacts an entire family. Many of our families are young and already had a minimal income before the pandemic. This pandemic has hit these families especially hard as they have lost their jobs.

Several of the children are making routine trips to hospitals in Guadalajara, which means that the accompanying parent needs to stay near the hospital. This can be anywhere from a few days up to a month. We provide financial assistance to these families and we also help with their daily prescriptions. In addition to financial assistance, we provide monthly despensas of basic items such as rice, beans, cooking oil, tuna, and special milk. These are a big help to the families but they always need more items.

We recently had two refrigerators donated and were given a donation to purchase some much needed mattresses. Recently, one little girl passed away after over two and a half years of fighting cancer. She was always smiling and loved swimming and shopping. A month ago she had been in a hospital for several weeks but her one wish was to be at home and have a Wonder Woman party for her 7th birthday. We made sure she got her wish, complete with a Wonder Woman costume, piñata and cake. We'll miss her smile and her love of life!
