Seller and Property Owner Alert: Cashier's Check and Western Union Scams
How it works: A distant buyer or prospective tenant responds to your ad, agrees to your terms and conditions, sends a money order or cashier's check that exceeds the actual price or rent, and requests that you forward the excess amount to a third party via Western Union or Money Gram. Several days later, after initially accepting the deposit, your bank informs you that their money order or cashier's check is fake - but you've already wired the excess amount to the scammer...
