El Tigre Golf Course Already known worldwide for its spectacular sugar sand beach as long as three footballs fields and award-winning spa, in March of 2002 Paradise Village added still another dimension to this near perfect spot with the opening of El Tigre, a challenging new 18-hole golf course along with a luxurious clubhouse and several options for luxurious fairway residences.
The El Tigre (The Tiger) golf course was designed by highly respected Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril of the Texas firm of Robert von Hagge, Smelek and Baril, creators of several or the world's top-ranked courses. The par-72 championship PGA-rated course [click here to see course pocket guide] plays to 7,200 yards and features several lakes, a meandering creek and diabolically placed bunkers and swales, framed by the Sierra Madre Mountains in the distance.

El Tigre features an expansive driving range along with practice bunkers and putting greens. The course is currently being managed by Troon Golf, operators of more than 50 international courses, including nine of the Top 100. In October 2002, El Tigre hosted the Paradise Village Nation's Cup, the qualifying event for the PGA World Cup championship event with golfers participating from around the world.
Other planned international events are currently on the drawing board. While scratch golfers are tested from the championship tees, higher handicappers find a variety of tee placements suitable to their game. Complimenting the golf course is the new 45,000 square-foot Clubhouse complete with cupolas and terraces overlooking the 18th green. The Clubhouse features a spa, terraced restaurant and lounge, golf shop, locker rooms and a "members only" area offering private lockers, massage and other treatments, as well as an exercise room and beauty salon.
The internationally televised annual Celebrity Sports Invitational welcomes entertainment and sports celebrities who participate in fund-raising events including golf at El Tigre for international charities. Hosts have included Fran Drescher of "The Nanny" and Ted Danson, of "Cheers" fame, and concerts by Joe Walsh of the "Eagles" and Peter Frampton.

Canadian Golfer Shoots Record Breaking 58 at El Tigre Golf Course
Bob Cohen
I hadn't heard anything about it, but just a week ago I saw good friends Jesus Carmona, Director of El Tigre Golf Course and Country Club and head golf professional Francisco Salazar. We chatted about what was new at El Tigre and in general, when Jesus mentioned about a golfer shooting a record shattering 58 earlier in the year.
