With the rise of 'digital nomads' and people being able to work from satellite offices anywhere in the world, more and more families are moving to Puerto Vallarta, encouraged by factors like an affordable cost of living, excellent healthcare and fantastic, bilingual schools. Back to School Tips for Vallarta Parents Tropicasa Realty August 16, 2019 Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - Did you recently move to Puerto Vallarta with your family? If you did, you are not alone. With the rise of "digital nomads" and people being able to work from satellite offices anywhere in the world, more and more families are moving to Puerto Vallarta, encouraged by factors like an affordable cost of living, excellent health care and fantastic, bilingual schools. If you are raising children in Mexico and this is your first "back to school" experience, we have some parenting tips to help start the school year off on the right foot. • Uniforms for private schools in Puerto Vallarta are sold on the 3rd floor of the LANS department store in Plaza Caracol. Each school will have its own section, arranged by color and size. Be sure to purchase daily uniforms, a sports uniform, and – unlikely though it may seem – a school jacket or sweater for the mornings in January and February. • School shoes are best bought at Walmart, Soriana or any larger shoe store. Schools are quite particular about shoes, generally requiring black laced or loafer-style shoes for boys and black slip-on flats or Mary Jane-styles for girls. For athletic shoes, schools almost exclusively ask that they be all white, without logos or brand names. • The school supply list can be daunting, especially the notebooks of many specific sizes, colors, line type and pages required. Do yourself a favor and visit any local papelería (stationery store), instead of a large chain store, and hand them the list. They will sort out all your child's school supply needs for you - quickly, inexpensively, and correctly. • Backpacks should not have wheels and look for insulated lunch boxes that can manage a cool pack, to help keep school lunches fresh and tasty. Great ones are to be had at Costco. Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful place to raise a family. We hope parents find our back to school tips helpful.
