Mexico City - According to the General Director of Issuance of the Bank of Mexico, Alejandro Alegre Rabiela, a new 200 pesos bill will begin to circulate in the country this September.

Although the current bills will not stop circulating, the gradual replacement of the famous "Sor Juana" bill will begin.

In August 2018, the 500-peso bill was presented with Benito Juárez, in this way, the circulation of the new ticket family began. According to Alegre Rabiela, they will follow the one with a thousand pesos and then the one with a hundred.

From September, Banxico will issue the new 200-peso bill, which will now have Miguel Hidalgo and José María Morelos, who represent the stage of Independence.

On the reverse, the bush and desert ecosystem with the golden eagle and the sahuaro will be represented as natural heritage, in the El Pinacate Biosphere Reserve and the Great Desert of Altar.

The replacement is due to improving the security measures of paper money. Similar to the case of the 500-peso bill, the 200-dollar bill is one of the most counterfeit, for this reason, they started with those pieces.

In an interview with Notimex, the official reported that in 2018 339 thousand counterfeit pieces of banknotes were collected, more than 301 thousand in 2017, while, from metallic coins, last year about 700 thousand of metallic currency were received, against 976, respectively.

However, the figure of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz will not disappear from the Mexican paper money, because now she will be in the 100 pesos, which represents the stage of the colony in our country.
