Just ten minutes from most hotels and a mile or so east toward the mountains, you will find Vallarta's own small Mexican village, Pitillal. A suburban area of Puerto Vallarta that had remained untouched by tourism, this bustling pueblo of about 80,000 feels much like the "real" Mexico. Our Pitillal street map will help you find your way around this lively community.

The main square is ringed with benches, where you can sit and enjoy live concerts on weekends throughout the season. Just up the river from the plaza about six or eight blocks is a rodeo stadium where "Charros" put on cowboy-style shows, and Banda performances take place periodically. Don't miss a visit to the landmark church of San Miguel, or the small market and tiny tiendas selling everything at true Mexican prices.
