Child molestation. Torture. Prostitution. Cannibalism. There are way too many sins to keep track of in Sin City.
The stylized film adaptation of Frank Miller'spopular comic books arrives in theaters Friday and stars Bruce Willis as a renegade detective.
At Sin City's premiere Monday night, two of Willis' three daughters Rumer, 16, and Tallulah, 11 watched the R-rated film with their father, mother Demi Moore and her boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher.
Sitting still through the non-stop barrage of violence, the girls displayed the most amusement when their 50-year-old dad started making out on screen with an exotic dancer, played by 23-year-old Jessica Alba.
Sin City co-star Michael Clarke Duncan acknowledged that he was surprised to see the Willis girls there. "It's kind of graphic for kids," he said. "But they're like actresses now, so I think they're used to it. They were brought up in the business. They're regulars."
After the film, Kutcher escorted Moore, who was dressed in a loose-fitting green gown, to the theater's bathroom.
In the lobby, Willis scooped up Tallulah in his arms. With her rubber Spider-Man boots dangling at her father's side, Tallulah smothered Willis with kisses and said, "I love you, Pappy." Later, at The Gallery after-party in Westwood, Willis squired Rumer about the room of famous faces, which included Quentin Tarantino, Oliver Stone and porn king Ron Jeremy before making an early exit at 11:10 p.m.
Sin City director Robert Rodriguez said he thought Willis had prepared his daughters for what they saw on screen. "I wouldn't let my 8-year-old see it, but it depends on the parent and the kid," Rodriguez said. "(Tallulah) was able to watch it because of who he is. I know how he has always treated his kids. They're very aware of what movies are, how they're made and that it's complete artifice. Bruce really is a great parent. I think he knew they'd be proud of the work he did."
The film's Brittany Murphy might have been spot-on at least for the night when she named L.A. the most sinful city she has ever visited. But her Sin City co-stars all claimed to have discovered far more sinful spots during their world travels:
Willis: "I guess Las Vegas is the most sinful city. If you've been there, you know why."
Mickey Rourke: "Vegas is the hole of the world. I go to Miami or Austin, Texas, for real fun."
Alba: "Any city you want to commit sin in can be sinful. Last time I checked, Miami was pretty sinful."
Benicio Del Toro: "Vegas. It's a playground for adults. Have you ever been to the pet shops in Vegas? There's one right off the main strip with mountain tigers and monkeys."
Clive Owen: "Amsterdam's pretty lively. A wild, crazy, weird and wonderful place."
Carla Gugino: "Amsterdam, for its red-light district. There are many forms of dessert that are laced with ... something else."
Elijah Wood: "You can get in a lot of trouble in Prague. I've spent some time there. There's an underbelly, but I didn't really delve into that dark side." |
