"Tasting the Stars" under the Stars PVNN
Champagne. The very word implies parties, fun, romance, and special occasions - so what better way to kick off Café des Artistes' 15th Anniversary celebration than with an exclusive Dom Perignon champagne tasting?
And that's just what they did. On Thursday, December 1st at 8 pm, the bottles were chilled and the tables were set for a special champagne tasting class at Cocina de Autor in celebration of Café des Artistes' 15th Anniversary.
Many people refer to all sparkling wines as Champagne, like we say Kleenex for tissues or Xerox for copy machines, but putting Dom Perignon in the same category as some sparkling wines is like comparing Cafe des Artistes with a street-side taco stand.
According to Mayan Palace Sommelier Daniel Mendez, "in the beginning champagne was a regular wine, but in the last 100-150 years it has become an aristocratic beverage - that is why Dom is so famous and prestigious."
Dom Perignon, the monk who invented the wine during his service at the Abbey of Hautvillers in the last decade of the 17th century, is quoted as saying, "Come quickly, I am tasting the stars" upon sampling his first perfected batch. And it was under the stars the 15th anniversary of Café des Artistes began its two-week long celebration.
