Nature Seeking Balance - a Celebration of Vallarta Art

A collection of beautiful works that should not be missed, Nature Seeking Balance will be on display from Jan 11th-17th at Galería Narvaez, located at 241 Leona Vicario in the heart of downtown Puerto Vallarta.
Puerto Vallarta - After twenty years of living and working in the Banderas Bay area, the spotlight is once again shining on local artist Philippo LoGrande as his new show, "Nature Seeking Balance," opens at Galería Narvaez today.

Some of you may already be familiar with Philippo Lo Grande. Known by many as the artist featured in "Which Way Por Favor," the feature-length romantic adventure filmed on the sun-drenched beach of Yelapa, Philippo is a familiar face around town.

Trained in Italy, this gifted artist exhibits his paintings at the Arte Malecon every Saturday. And when he's not painting or drawing portraits on the Malecon, he's reaching out to other artists, performing his music in local clubs or just entertaining the crowd with his amazing magic tricks.

"I see art as a public service that inspires and raises the consciousness. That's why I painted the Guadalupe in the sacristy of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. I'll never forget how I felt when the mayor and the city fathers carried my 2x4.5 meter painting into the church to be dedicated."

"When Padre Ramirez announced 'Now Philippo is a Mexican too,' to the jubilant congregation, I felt that the outpouring of love and respect was not only for me, but for all of the unrecognized artists who ever lived," he said.

LoGrande continued, "I feel that Puerto Vallarta has given me the time and place to grow. It has come far in the 20 years I've been living here, and this gallery show is a celebration of that. This week I'm celebrating the 20th anniversary of my arrival here, and Galería Narvaez is 2 blocks from where I stayed then."

A collection of beautiful works that should not be missed, Nature Seeking Balance will be on display from Jan 11th-17th at Galería Narvaez, located at 241 Leona Vicario in the heart of downtown Puerto Vallarta.

According to LoGrande, "This showing is not a retrospective, it's all new work. Called "Nature Seeking Balance," the paintings in this exhibit recognize universal truths, and I applaud the Cultural Department for finally having begun to recognize the sacrifices made by so many here in 'Humpback Bay'..."

The art community around Banderas Bay is quite extensive, but not all artists are successful enough to meet their needs. So LoGrande, together with Javier Niño and Padre Esteban Salazar, organized BBAMBU, the Bahía de Artistas Médica Beneficiencia Unidad, the first association in the Banderas Bay area to offer Vallarta's artists financial assistance in case of emergencies.

The goal of this new organization is to provide help when an artist cannot continue working due to economic or health reasons, or if he/she should lose their home. To accomplish this, BBAMBU holds an annual Benefit Art Show. This year's miniature art auction will be held on February 20th at Galería å Arte Contemporáneo at 104 Allende in downtown Vallarta.
