Thierry Blouet Vallarta Trophy Cooking Competition Kathy Taylor - PVNN
| Don't miss the Thierry Blouet Vallarta Trophy Cooking Competition, scheduled to take place on March 19th at Cocina de Autor.
Café des Artistes Av. Guadalupe Sánchez 740 Old Town Puerto Vallarta Tel: 222-3229 Email: info@cafedesartistes.com Website: CafeDesArtistes.com | Maintaining his status as one of the culinary visionaries in this Pacific paradise, Thierry Blouet, owner of Puerto Vallarta's outstanding restaurant Café de Artistes, has established the first ever local chef competition.
What would you do with this list? Duck, cream cheese, converted rice, dried blueberries?
If you are a Mexican chef between the ages of 20 and 42, work in the culinary industry in the Puerto Vallarta area, and that list just jump started a stream of ideas in your head, then entering Concurso de Cocina Trofeo Vallarta Thierry Blouet is the right move for you.
Entrants must be between the ages of 20 and 42 and be currently employed in a professional kitchen, with at least 4 years of experience behind them. Six finalists will be selected from the applicants who will compete for the Thierry Blouet Vallarta Trophy.
Thierry Blouet, who has garnered international acclaim for his gastronomic talent throughout the years, believes that this competition will help local chefs prepare for the stress and challenge of international competition. Early in his career, while at La Perla at the world class Camino Real in Puerto Vallarta, Chef Blouet was twice named the National Chef of the Year.
The competition will take place on March 19th in the Thierry Blouet Cocina de Autor, the inspirational private dining room of the Café des Artistes suite of dining experiences. Cocina boasts an open kitchen with a gallery for observers; twenty-five members of the public will be able to view the competition at any given time beginning at 10:00 in the morning.
Candidates will be given 3 hours to prepare and present their creations using these ingredients: duck, cream cheese, converted rice, and dried blueberries. Chef and President of the Culinary Academy of France, Gerard Dupont, will be supervising and evaluating the competition.
Chef Dupont is no stranger to the gastronomic scene in Puerto Vallarta; he has been a guest chef at Café des Artistes and the guest instructor and inspiration for many young local chefs at the annual Vallarta Festival Gourmet for many years.
The winning chef will receive the Thierry Blouet trophy, designed by artist Octavio Gonzalez Gutierez, as well as the prestigious medal from the Culinary Academy of France, and $1000 USD supplied by the United States Department of Agriculture.
Other gifts will be awarded, and second and third place winners will receive recognition and a week of practice each in Thierry Blouet Cocina de Autor.
Sponsors are United States Department of Agriculture, Sheraton Hotel, Mexicana Airlines, Vallarta Opina, Corona Groupo Modelo, artist Octavio Gonazalez, the City of Puerto Vallarta, Mr. Lucky, Café des Artistes, Luis Felipe Edwards, Boutique Thierry Blouet, and Anco Alimentos.
