MTV Latin America Announces Interviews with Mexican Candidates
Associated Press
MTV Latin America announced Friday a series of planned interviews with Mexican presidential candidates to promote informed voting for young people ahead of that country's elections in July.
MTV Latin America will produce "We are 30 Million: Conversations with Presidential Candidates," to be hosted by MTV anchor Ilana Sod and airing before the July 2 election.
The interviews, which will give young voters the chance to ask questions of candidates, will be taped in MTV's Mexico City studios in May. The 30-minute specials will air in alphabetical order at the end of May on the cable network, and on the Internet, Miami-based MTV Latin America said in a news release.
"Through this series of specials, MTV and the consortium will also raise the awareness around the importance of youth vote in Mexico's presidential elections," said Carlos Magana, MTV Latin America's country manager for Mexico.
The network said it has created a consortium that includes the pro-voting groups Tu Rock es Votar and Todos Participando Foundation.
Since 1992, MTV has hosted youth forums with candidates such as Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, Nelson Mandela and Colin Powell.
