Killers Shoot Video For All-American Single — In Mexico

Band will perform at Video Music Awards on August 31, release sophomore album October 3. (Island Records)
For months, the Killers have been touting the uniquely American sound of their Sam's Town album. So naturally, when it came time for them to shoot the video for the first single from the disc, they chose a locale steeped in red-white-and-blue yore, full of mom-and-pop general stores and creaky front-porch swings.

Actually, they just decided to shoot the thing in Mexico.

Working with photographer/director Anthony Mandler (Eminem, 50 Cent, Sean Paul), the Killers invaded the tiny mountain town of Tlayacapan — two hours south of Mexico City — to film a clip for "When You Were Young," an Island Records spokesperson told MTV News.

Full details aren't available for the "Young" video, whose two-day shoot wrapped last week. In keeping with the Killers' recent bolo-tie-and-bandolier look, the shoot featured an all-Mexican cast and crew, and the whole thing looks "fantastic, authentic and cinematic," according to the label's notes from the shoot.

The video features scenes shot at 500-year-old churches — Tlayacapan is known for its numerous "barrio chapels" — and a band performance in a local brothel.

The video is tentatively scheduled to hit airwaves this month — perhaps in time for the Killers' just-announced performance at the 2006 Video Music Awards on August 31.
