Art Talk Denise Derameé - PVNN
Every October kicks off the official opening of the Puerto Vallarta "art season," and this year promises to be the best ever, with art galleries and events spotlighting local and internationally known artists from Mexico and around the world.
The PV art season got off to a sizzling start with a city-wide exhibition of Erotic and Sensual Art, which was on display in public spaces as well as in some of the finest art galleries in Puerto Vallarta from October 1st-8th.
The exhibition was such a success that the Sol y Luna – Arte Sin Fronteras gallery not only had to take over three additional spaces in Plaza Romy to house all of the erotic art they had on display, but they also decided to continue featuring the exhibit through October 24th
On the 20th, Galeria Sol y Luna featured their "Fall Art Show," presenting new paintings by Guadalajaran artist Roberto López Ramírez and sculpture by Cuban artist Rafael Miranda San Juan, and on the 25th they opened their Dia de los Muertos Art Show.
On October 25th, the Old Town Art Walk will began its eleventh year as one of the most important and popular cultural events in Puerto Vallarta with the first Old Town Art Walk of the 2006-2007 art season.
During the Old Town Art Walk, which continues through March 28th, the following Puerto Vallarta art galleries will be holding free cocktail expositions every Wednesday night from 6 to 10 pm:
Galeria Vallarta, Galeria Uno, Galeria Corona, Galeria AL, Corsica Galeria, Galeria Omar Alonso, Galeria des Artistes, Galeria 8, Galeria Nelly, The Loft, Galeria de Ollas, Galeria Art Popular Mexicano, Sergio Bustamante, Galeria Pacifico and Beatriz Narvaez Galeria
These popular downtown art galleries (all within walking distance of each other,) will be brimming with new exhibitions featuring art in all mediums - paintings, sculptures, pottery and folk art - so be sure to stop by to meet with the artists, view new work, and share in the wealth of culture these cocktail receptions present.
