| Guadalajara artist Jonas Gutierrez will veils Puerto Vallarta's newest street sculpture, "El Sutil Comepiedras" [The Subtle Rock Eater]. | It seems that everywhere you turn in Puerto Vallarta you can see the influence of art - not only in the many galleries and museums, but also in the form of the fantastical sculptures that line the Malecón and our streets.
Right across from the Hard Rock Cafè, (downtown between Abasolo and Aldama streets) Guadalajara artist Jonas Gutierrez unveiled the city's newest street sculpture, "El Sutil Comepiedras" (The Subtle Rock Eater.)
This 2.4 meter high, bronze sculpture depicts a magician with a 320 kilogram stomach of obsidian. Jonas worked with Puerto Vallarta city authorities to initiate this project, which the artists says will, "add something new to the magic of Puerto Vallarta."
Jonas Gutierrez, an artist from Guadalajara, started sculpting in the 1980s. His first project, "La Estampida" [The Stampede], was installed on the streets of Guadalajara. In 1987, he started working with bronze, wood and stone, which today, is his trademark.
