Gallery owners Claudia Lovera and Alejandro Martinez invite you to the inauguration of their newest Puerto Vallarta Mata Ortiz Pottery gallery, located on the 2nd floor of the Peninsula Village Shopping Center, this Saturday, December 30th at 7 pm.

Collected and cherished by people in many countries, Mata Ortiz pottery is one of the finest and most innovative ceramics in the world. The new gallery will not only feature the world-famous Mata Ortiz Pottery, but also the contemporary artwork of Mexican Masters Irma Griza and Jose Luis Garcia.

Shown from New York and Los Angeles to Paris and Mexico City, Irma Grizá is the recipient of the prestigious Premio París award presented by Grupo de los Dieciseis, AC. The paintings of Irma Grizá share a force that not only lies in the themes she develops, but in the vision they offer us as well. She allows us to glimpse the secret inner-life of her subjects that our blunted sensibilities might make us believe are inanimate.

It is difficult to describe the raw power of master potter, weaver, sculptor and painter Jose Luis Garcia. Originally from Oaxaca, Mexico, Sr. Garcia's creations have been exhibited throughout Europe, the United States and Mexico. From commanding life-sized sculptures to intricate woven bowls, Jose's work has garnered unified praise across the globe.

Led by Juan Quezada, the entire pueblo of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico follow centuries-old methods to create outstanding handmade coiled pots, called ollas. These artists have progressed through the imitation of pre-Hispanic ceramics and have moved on to a sophisticated creation of contemporary art.

Using the ollas as their canvas, the potters of Mata Ortiz have imprinted not only re-creations of ancestral symbols, but have also searched within their very souls to create a unique artistic language that is both imaginative and original.

Don't miss the opening event of this new gallery, which brings together the beautiful and celebrated creations of Mata Ortiz, and the color and drama of the art work created by Mexican Masters Irma Grizá and Jose Luis Garcia, this Saturday, December 30, beginning at 7:00 pm on the 2nd floor of the new Peninsula Village.

For additional information on the new gallery or the opening event, call (322) 222-7407 or send an email to info@mataortiz-pottery.com.
