Kosmas Opens at Le Gourmet
email this pageprint this pageemail usBob Cohen - PVNN

Kosmas (L) with Le Gourmet owner Jose Luis Hernandez.
Kosmas Mamadopoulos opened the winter season at Le Gourmet Restaurant last Wednesday night, bringing his act that made him a New York City success for over thirty years to Puerto Vallarta. The personable and charismatic Greek delighted diners with his mix of songs in five different languages - and he always plays requests from the audience.

Playing guitar, piano and organ combined with a synthesizer that sounds like there is an orchestra accompanying him, Kosmas sang tunes that had patrons singing and dancing to almost every song.

Le Gourmet Restaurant is the oldest gourmet dining establishment in Puerto Vallarta. This popular family owned and operated restaurant has been serving the community for more than 45 years. The current owner, Jose Luis Hernandez, started his culinary career while working in his Dad's restaurant during summers while studying at a Mexico City university. When he graduated in 1979, he came back to Le Gourmet and never left, successfully running the restaurant now for over 27 years.

If one enjoys fine dining, this is one restaurant not to be missed. All appetizers and desserts are prepared at you table by a seasoned waitstaff that has been with Jose Luis for years. The entrees are absolutely delicious and the prices are extremely reasonable.

The restaurant offers only one seating per night, making it a favorite place for Puerto Vallarta locals, seasonal residents and tourists to enjoy a full evening of dining and entertainment at Le Gourmet. And now that Kosmas has returned, (playing Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturday nights at 8 pm), reservations should be made in advance.

Kosmas play two one-hour sets; the first is softer, as patrons are dining, and the second set is extremely upbeat, as desserts and drinks are on the tables, and the dance floor full.

With a repertoire of over five thousand tunes, one can hardly listen to Kosmas play and not recognize the majority of the songs he performs. His music ranges from Frank Sinatra favorites to 60's and 70's popular soft rock music, as well as popular songs performed in a number of languages. When patrons have a special request, they are often invited up on the stage to sing a duet with Kosmas.

Overall, this is a dining and entertainment experience that will leave you feeling as if you'd spent an evening in a fancy Manhattan night club. The only difference is that you'll leave with your hunger satisfied, popular tunes spinning through your head and plenty of pesos left in your wallet, allowing another return to experience another evening at Le Gourmet.

Le Gourmet Restaurant is located at 242 Aquiles Serdan in Colonia Emilio Zapata, (on the first street after the bridge that takes one into the Romantic Zone on the only road into town.) Reservations are recommended, especially on the nights that Kosmas performs, and can be made by calling 222-0914 or 222-0450.
