Puerto Vallarta - Lucille Shipley, who trained in New York at the Parson School of Design, City College, Modern Museum, New School, New York University and Columbia, has lived in Vallarta for more years than she cares to mention.

For over a decade, she has been running a studio workshop where participants work in acrylic, watercolors and oils, and every year, Lucille hosts an annual charity exhibit showcasing the work of students in her art workshop.

This year's event will benefit the Los Mangos Public Library and is scheduled to take place on January 27th and 28th from 2-6 pm at the workshop studio, which is in Lucille's home at Calle Zaragoza #414 (next door to Casa Kimberly.)

Participating artists include: Pat Adair, Janice Beck, Sybil Breitwiesse, Mary Ellis, Barbara Keith-Smith, Frankie Kruger, Edwige Pelletier, Rosa Ramirez, Janet Rowe-Hoffman, Mila Saunders, Cassandra Shaw, Shirley Smith, Heidi Snowden, Claire Wagner, Gloria Whiting and of course, Lucille Shipley.

All artists will be donating 10% of their sales to the Puerto Vallarta Los Mangos Public Library, a valuable resource for our educational institutions as well as a center for promoting cultural activities in our growing city.

Biblioteca Los Mangos has nine full-time employees, including University students and "Becados" (scholarship recipients,) who provide community services such as language courses, piano lessons and summer courses for children as part of their academic requirements.

Today, thanks in part to benefits such as the annual Lucille Shipley Workshop Exhibition, the library also features a video center, a CD based learning center 15 internet connections and, according to Los Mangos Director, Ricardo Murriet, last year the library increased its cultural calendar by some 20%.

Lucille Shipley and the workshop participants hope that this unique art showing will allow visitors to take home a delightful work of art that they can not only enjoy for itself, but also treasure, knowing that they helped provide the children of Puerto Vallarta with the opportunities that only education and cultural events can provide.

So be sure to stop by Lucille Shipley's workshop studio on Calle Zaragoza #414 (next door to the Casa Kimberley pink bridge,) on Saturday, January 27th and Sunday January 28th between 2–6 pm to have a glass of wine or juice, see some wonderful art, talk with the Maestra and her students - and perhaps pick up that perfect piece of art while helping to support the Los Mangos Library.
