Mexican Actors Luna, Garcia Promote Documentary Film Festival Associated Press
| Diego Luna and Gael Garcia Bernal in IFC Films' Y Tu Mama Tambien - 2002 | Mexican actors Diego Luna and Gael Garcia appeared together Monday in Mexico City to promote a traveling documentary festival that will tour the nation from Feb. 2 to March 29, local media reported.
The actors — who starred in the 2001 road movie "Y Tu Mama Tambien" — said they hoped the "Ambulante" ("Wandering") documentary festival would serve as a platform for Mexican filmmakers. The two men also promoted the first edition of the festival last year.
"This type of cinema has a lot of trouble and obstacles in getting into commercial theaters, and so we thought of getting together and trying to get people involved to give the public a different experience," Luna said during the conference at a Mexico City theater.
The festival is scheduled to appear in Mexican cities from Cancun in the south to Tijuana in the north. It will exhibit 31 documentary and non-fiction films, both Mexican and foreign, the newspaper Reforma reported.
Between 35 and 40 percent of any profits will be distributed to the films' directors, to encourage them to continue their work. |
