On January 8th, over 10,000 toys were delivered to poor children around Puerto Vallarta and surrounding areas during the annual Three King's Day Toys For Tots distribution.

Early that morning, The Navy League, together with over 100 Toys for Tots sponsors and volunteers met at the Hotel Marriott CasaMagna to join one of the 10 caravans that traveled to some of the poorer neighborhoods in the Banderas Bay area in addition to small towns in outlying areas of Jalisco and Nayarit, including:

Cabo Corriente, El Tuito, Boca de Tomatlán, Mismaloya, Las Palmas del Progreso, El Progreso, 12 de Octubre, Los Volcanes, Las Mojoneras, Magisterio, Loma Bonita, Joyas del Pedregal, La Floresta, Brisas del Pacifico, Las Palmas, Soyatán, Tebelchia, San Sebastián, Mezcalitos, Laguna, Tondoroque, Higuera Blanca, Sayulita, Guamuchil, San Quintín, San Ignacio, La Peñita, El Colomo, La Ceiba, El Carrizo, Los Sauces and Agua Milpa.

Thousands of balls, dolls, stuffed animals and wagons filled the vehicles to overflowing, thanks to the efforts of the community and sponsors of December's 8th Annual Toys for Tots Golf Tournament and Gala Awards Dinner, such as the CasaMagna Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort, the Navy League, Club de Golf Vista Vallarta, Continental Airlines, the US Consulate, the International Friendship Club, Coldwell Banker and Scotia Bank.

Together they raised enough funds to purchase 12,000 toys, but the delivery structure does not exist since each toy is handed directly to a child, and that requires quite a few more hands than the Navy League, in spite of its enthusiasm, can supply.

So where will the extra cash be spent? The Navy League will build a playground in a poor village in both Nayarit and Jalisco in the coming year, an effort to bring year-round smiles to the children who live there.
