Born in Korea and trained in fine arts in the United States, Won Lee is a Toronto-based sculptor whose work has been shown and collected in North America, Europe, Asia - and now Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Won's solo show, "Incorporeal Materiality," will open on March 7th at 7 pm at The Loft Gallery in Puerto Vallarta, where he will reside for the next 2 months, creating new pieces and giving lectures.

The work of this Internationally acclaimed artist makes an impact wherever he travels, lectures and exhibits, so following the show's inauguration Lee will be hosting "Talk the Walk," an Artist's Discussion at Ztai Lounge and Garden, Morelos 737, El Centro.

Lee received his B.F.A. at Pepperdine University and also attended the Otis Art Institute. In the past, he has lectured on postmodern art theories and practices at the Luxun Academy of Fine Arts in China.

Previous solo exhibitions include work in the New York International Art Expo, the Ing Gallery in Seoul, Korea, and the Zypr Gallery in Toronto. His work has also been sold through Sotheby's in London.

ABOUT WON'S SCULPTURE

Won's sculptural bodies are not the bodies that represent.
They are bodies outside of history or sign.
They are bodies without organs, especially faces.

They are bodies of their own differences with their own desires.
Their desires do not share humans' or any others' representational point of view.
They are pure virtual and actual affects of their own.

The bodies roam where the profane meets the sacred, the ordered shares the boundary with the chaos, and taboos are pushed to open the wall of reason.

They dance to shamans' tunes, converse with the unknowns, and rejoice in their "incorporeal materiality."
- Tony Ilik
