And now, owner/chef Art Mendoza is proud to announce that Greg Forest will be heating up the stage on April 28th.
ABOUT GREG FOREST
Greg started playing music at age six when his parents gave him organ lessons. Not long after Greg saw the Beatles and decided that the guitar was more appropriate to his rock god aspirations.
From 1968-1969 Greg performed with the cast of Up With People. One night in Houston Greg played hooky from his Up With People gig at the Houston Music Hall to go see what all the hubbub was about at the Coliseum next door. That night Greg saw Jimi Hendrix open for the Monkeys and his life was transformed. Forest went from a short haired straight-laced Up With People type to a long-haired rocking freak faster than a speeding bong.
Soon after dropping out of college (his most notable college band was Dr. Danny and the NeuroPsychic Penises - popular at frat parties,) Greg moved to Lake Tahoe taking with him his longtime bassist, David Sumners. They played around Northern California, primarily in the Lake Tahoe region as a rock power trio - Fast Cotton. The band had some notable appearances with Boz Scaggs, Arlo Guthrie, Hoyt Axton, and others.
In 1976 Greg and David produced the first rock music concert in a casino booking Freddie King into, appropriately enough, King's Castle (now Hyatt Lake Tahoe.) Greg and David went on to produce a number of concerts and tours in California and Texas.
Greg dropped out of the music business for much of the 90's but was dragged back into performing by Alex Abravanel when Alex called from Europe and asked Greg if he wanted to open for his upcoming tour. Greg accepted. Shortly thereafter Alex cancelled the tour but Greg went on tour without Alex and started performing in Europe over 200 nights a year for the next six years primarily in Denmark, Norway, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Italy.
Back in Texas, Greg is now CEO of the Music Office, a production and consulting firm. Greg was a founder of Dime A Dozen, a popular Texas band that was disbanded after the death of Cindy Terry the lead vocalist and frontline songwriter. In the band's eight years they got to play a number of great shows ranging from opening for Merle Haggard on their first gig to entertaining the troops at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the lead up to the Iraq war.
Greg is currently performing as a solo, in a trio with Texas music legends Ron Knuth and Ronnie Leatherman (recently inducted into the Texas Music Hall of Fame for his work with the 13th Floor Elevators,) and with his band, The Greg Forest Band, which has such guest luminaries as Freddie Krc on drums, Robert McEntee on guitar among others. The core of the band is Greg, Ronnie Leatherman on bass and Mark Butzirous on drums.
Greg's new CD, "End Times Lullabies," is due for a May 2007 release - a long awaited follow up to his 1995 release, "Texas Tune Stranglers." Greg's performance is guided by musicianship, strong song content and irreverent wit. To learn more about this talented musician, visit gregforestmedia.com.
But that's not all that's happening at Punta Mita Time. Since purchasing the restaurant from his former Café Luna partner last November, Chef Art has built a great meeting place where, according to Mendoza, "all will be entertained, whether by the music or our excellent cuisine." |
