On March 9th at 7 pm, forty Russian ballet dancers will take the stage in the CUC auditorium for an unforgettable ballet in three acts that will delight Puerto Vallarta audiences for over two hours.
Since there is no other stage in Puerto Vallarta that is worthy of such an extraordinary performance, the city's Cultural Department, together with Coordinator Ekaterina Estolyanova, chose the CUC auditorium to welcome the St. Petersburg Grand Ballet Company.
The company was founded as the first Theatre of Ballet in Russia under the management of the People's Artist of Russia, Professor Peter Gusev in 1966. In 1969 the post of Artistic Director and Manager was occupied by the prominent choreographer, outstanding ballet master, Honoured Artist of Russia and State Prize Laureate, Leonid Jacobson.
In 1976, Jacobson's friend and favorite dancer, Askold Makarov, became his successor. After his death in December 2000, the post of Artistic Director was taken over in 2001 by famous choreographer, Yuri Petukhov, a State Prize Laureate of Russia and Laureate to the International Ballet competition.
Today, the high traditions of Russian Ballet is being passed on to a younger generation of artists, both Russian and foreign, who have been groomed into a whole corps de ballet, which proves deeply satisfying to watch.
Here in Vallarta, the St. Petersburg Grand Ballet Company promises to bring the people of Puerto Vallarta a first-rate performance that some might expect to find in a much larger city.
Ticket prices are $450 pesos, $350 pesos, and $250 pesos, and are available for purchase at the Department of Culture on the Isla Rio Cuale. For more information, call 223-0095.
