Seven years after its initial preem, Mexican epic "The Other Conquest" will be re-released on 50 prints in the U.S. on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

L.A.-based Union Station Media, a joint venture between Canada's Alliance Atlantis and Australia's Arclight Films, is handling the release. The initial runs are set for sites in Northern California, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas.

In 2000, "Conquest" grossed $2 million in Mexico and another $1 million in Southern California. There are no plans to re-release the pic into markets where it played seven years ago.

The film, set in the 1520s, centers on the struggle of the Aztec emperor's son to preserve his people's religious and cultural identity in the wake of the invasion by Spanish conquerors and clergymen. Damian Delgado, Elpidia Carrillo, Jose Carlos Rodriguez and Inaki Aierra starred.

"Conquest" was written and directed by Salvador Carrasco and produced by Alvaro Domingo. Placido Domingo exec produced and is featured on the soundtrack singing an aria composed especially for the movie.
