Last week, Mike and Debbi proudly presented Becas Vallarta, A.C. with $7,515 pesos, proceeds from two "Local Celebrity Nights" in March with Polly Vicars and Peter Gray acting as guest hosts.

Since late October of 2006, Banana Cantina owners Debbi & Mike Egan have dedicated every Wednesday night to charitable causes here in Vallarta. Not only do they invite a "Local Celebrity" to entertain guests while raising funds for the charity of their choice, but they also donate 10% of the night's sales to the chosen charity.

Join guest host Nina Goodhope (pictured here with Banana Cantina owner, Mike Egan) tonight at 7 pm for the last "Local Celebrity Night" of the season. For more information, call 222-2114 or visit BananaCantina.com.

Even though most everyone agrees that education is the key to living a productive and satisfying life and that it should be available to every child, that is not always the case for Puerto Vallarta kids.

Many come from single parent homes, homes with five, six or more children or homes where the breadwinner makes only enough to provide the very basics of life. Those circumstances make it impossible for the children, no matter how bright and eager to learn, to continue their education past the mandated junior high.

That is where Becas Vallarta comes in. Becas Vallarta, A.C. is a non-profit, tax-deductible Mexican foundation charged with fund raising and administering scholarships program for students in Puerto Vallarta.

All of this is done by volunteers - Mexican, Canadian and American - working in harmony to make Puerto Vallarta a better place by having an educated populace. Together they have sponsored thousands of young Vallartenses through junior high, high school, university and even medical school.

Becas Vallarta, A.C. wishes to thank Mike and Debbi not only for including them in their celebrity nights, but also for their support of our community throughout the year.

Given that the High Season is winding down, last week Mike & Debbi announced that they will be hosting the last "Local Celebrity Night" of the season on Wednesday April 25th. Nina Goodhope, the owner of La Bodega de Nina, a distributor of fine wines and tropical treats here in Vallarta, will be hosting the event, which will benefit the Alfredo V. Bonfil School.

In addition to great food and friends, there will be gift certificates from a couple of Puerto Vallarta restaurants, wine, and other fun things for the raffle, so you'll enjoy a fun-filled night - for a good cause. "Together We Can Make A Difference!"

Located on the corner of Pulpito and Amapas, in the Romantic Zone of Puerto Vallarta, Banana Cantina boasts a totally unique menu featuring creative Contemporary Mexican Cuisine and International dishes in a casual atmosphere created by a colorful, yet comfortable, decor.

For more information, or to make your reservations, call 222-2114, send an email to PVbananacantina@aol.com, or visit BananaCantina.com. Banana Cantina will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays until the end of May, close for the Summer on June 1st, and re-open in mid-October 2007.
