San Antonio - People on both sides of the US-Mexico border are reaching out to help a 7-year-old in need of a heart transplant, including a former Mexican president.

Adrian Saucedo's family said it doesn't have insurance or $500,000 to get him the transplant.

A Dallas hospital doubled its intial figure to $1 million for the transplant, but a Pittsburgh hospital is offering to do the procedure for $500,000.

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox criticized the U.S. healthcare system in the states during his last visit to San Antonio for not being able to help Adrian.

"It's incredible that this society, in this country of the free so defined by this country of democracy, cannot solve a case like that," Fox said.

Fox said he and his wife are working on their end in Mexico to get Adrian the transpant.

The Mexican government has committed $200,000 to help Adrian get a new heart.

Adrian's family said until he gets the transplant, they don't know how long he'll survive.

"It's very difficult and hard to see him there in the condition he is in, and not being able to help him," Christian Saucedo, Adrian's mom, said. "Until he gets the transplant, we don't know how long he will be with us."

A barbeque fundraiser will be held on Saturday at a church on the city's West Side to help raise money for Adrian's transplant.

A fund has been set up to raise money in hopes of getting Adrian, who will turn 8 years old on Monday, a transplant.
