The World Celebrates Five Years at Sea PRWEB
| For more information on The World and a complete 2007 itinerary, please visit aboardtheworld.com. | In 1997, it was only a dream - to build a luxury ship that would serve as a vacation home, enabling Residents to sail to exotic locations across the globe while never leaving the comforts and conveniences of home. In March 2002, the dream was realized when The World, the first private residential community at sea, set sail. Celebrating its fifth year in 2007, The World is still the only private residential community at sea and ResidenSea Management Ltd, as the appointed management company, continues to lead the development of this exceptional lifestyle as well as providing new offerings and amenities for its Residents and Guests.
Enjoying its fifth year of successful sailing, The World now looks ahead at innovative developments on the horizon. In late April 2007, the ship underwent multi-million dollar refurbishments, during a two-week dry dock period, resulting in new soft goods in public areas including the Lobby/Plaza area, several onboard restaurants and the full-size tennis court. In early May, The World Spa by Banyan Tree was unveiled on the vessel.
Later in 2007, The World will introduce two custom-designed luxury catamarans with teak decks, private restrooms, pantry areas, viewing decks and central air-conditioning. These catamarans will not only be used for traditional transfer of Residents and Guests to and from the ship in anchor ports but also to venture through ravines and caves with smaller groups. They will also be used for smaller events and outings off the ship.
The World's Residents are deeply invested in the upkeep of their onboard homes. This year, many private homes will undergo modifications and receive enhancements such as wine storage rooms, new technology and other personal touches that will continue to make Residents feel at home while onboard.
As The World celebrates its fifth birthday, the ship has now sailed to 114 countries and has visited 516 unique ports across the globe, thus having covered every continent. The vessel, which successfully pioneered the luxury home at sea market, is also proud of other significant "firsts." These include several efforts to be as environmentally friendly as possible, including being the first vessel of its size to use clean marine diesel fuel instead of the much heavier bunker fuel that conventional passenger ships use. This, and other "green" practices make The World the only passenger ship approved to dock in places such as Monterey, California, which applies the strictest pollution controls in the United States on large cruise ships. The ship was also the first passenger vessel to sail to Chiapas, Mexico in 2006, when the port expanded its tourism efforts to welcome passengers.
Due to the vessel's extraordinary itineraries each year, the ship has crossed the Panama Canal three times, the Suez Canal twice and visited the Arctic and Antarctica for in-depth explorations. In its first five years at sea, The World has attended the 2003 America's Cup Races in Auckland, the 2005 Louis Vuitton Challenger in Valencia, Carnaval in Rio, the Monaco Grand Prix and the British Open. Due to its worldwide itinerary, the vessel is able to span the globe every two-to-three years.
The vessel officially sold out in 2006, but there are a select number of resale apartments still available for purchase. Additionally, Guests can avail of vacation experiences aboard The World as Residents make their apartments available when they are not onboard themselves.
