Puerto Vallarta - Enjoy some light fare during the hot summer season at Daiquiri Dick's Restaurant. The restaurant's special Summer Sizzle Menu, which continues through the end of July, is a refreshing addition to their regular menu.

Offering diners the opportunity to sample three selections from their special Sunset Tapas Menu and a glass of Sangria for just $249 pesos, the Summer Sizzle Menu is a great way to make a whole meal out of a variety of small, but delicious, snacks.

Executive Chef Ignacio Uribe Moreno and Chef Hnoi Latthitham have designed a stellar selection of Tapas using fresh, local ingredients, especially seafood. "With this type of menu you can really experiment with different flavors and ways of preparation," says Ignacio. "A sampler menu also gives our clientele a lot of little tastes and still satisfies the appetite."

Hnoi recently returned from a working vacation in Spain, where Tapas have been a menu staple for about 700 years, so she brought back some of the traditional taste concepts. Plus, she said that eating her way across the country was another source of good ideas.

Some historians say the habit of placing a slice of bread or a piece of ham on top of a wine glass, perhaps to keep out insects, was the tapa origin. This edible lid, called La Tapa, was the precursor of modern-day Tapas.

The Tapas tradition soon spread through Spain and then the rest of the world, with each country putting its own spin on these little dishes. Traditionally served with wine, Tapas are eaten between main meals, allowing the body to survive until lunch or dinnertime.

In Spain, Tapas are not so much a kind of food, but a way of life. These tiny meals serve as a conduit to bring all types of people together. Spaniards go to Tapas bars to meet friends, to chat, and to watch other people. Conversations range from the mundane to the political to the philosophical, and the food can be very simple - or simply elegant.

At Daiquiri Dick's, the array of Tapas will vary throughout Summer Sizzle 2007, so look for new choices every week. In the meantime, take some time to ponder these:
