Texas Week Returns to the Marival Resort Harold Sokolove - PVNN
| "Texas Week 2006 was a rip-roarin' success," declared Marival activity director Reggie Paulk, from under his oversized foam cowboy hat. |
| Jeremy and Leah Smith, honeymooners from Paris, Texas won last year's Texas Two Step dance competition and were rewarded with a free Marival vacation. | Funjet Vacations has announced that the Marival Resort in Nuevo Vallarta will host a repeat special promotion, Texas Week, from June 18th to June 29th.
In fact, according to Molly Blackmon, Funjet Vacations Sales Manager for Mark Travel, Texas Week 2006, which took place at the Marival last October, was so popular that Funjet Vacations is allocating 2 weeks for the special promotion this year.
Funjet charters will be flying to Puerto Vallarta from Dallas/Ft Worth (DFW), Houston and San Antonio.
Blackmon had the opportunity to be at the Marival for a few days during Texas Week last year and was able to visit with several of the resort’s guests. The buzz around the pool, she reported, was that they hoped Funjet Vacations would do Texas Week again because it was so much fun. Even guests who weren’t from Texas joined in on the activities, she said.
"Overall, everyone said they got a taste of Texas in one place," says Blackmon. "One of the most popular activities was the dance lessons that were offered. A couple from New York exclaimed that they were so excited about learning how to do the Texas Two-step," she added.
Eating authentic Texas cuisine was also one of the more popular activities. The Marival even brought in two smokers to make sure that the Texas BBQ is done correctly. And the owner of Love & War in Texas, a Dallas-area restaurant known for the Texas cuisine, was brought in to personally oversee the food operation.
"This year, the owner and chef boarded a flight from Dallas on Friday, in plenty of time to start getting all of the 'fixins' ready over the weekend," Blackmon said. Blackmon went on to say that she heard a woman from Nevada remark that it was some of the best food she’d ever had.
Something new this year is a day pass that the Marival is offering, says Blackmon, so that guests from other hotels can come over to enjoy all of the festivities, including the live music. The day pass will cost $35 USD.
Speaking of live music, the lineup of Texas artists scheduled to perform includes: Jesse Dayton & Mark David Manders, June 18-22; Austin Cunningham, June 22-25; and Texas Daze, June 25-28.
