Check it out at Amazon.com | Teresa Rodriguez Williamson has been to a lot of places.
According to her introduction in this female-friendly guidebook, she chose these 50 places based on numerous factors, including safety, good public transportation, the variety of things to do and see, friendliness and cost.
Each destination is filled with advice and suggestions.
Her tone is casual, oftentimes so chummy that it gets to be a bit wearisome. And sometimes she just doesn't get her facts right: It should be author Irving Welsh instead of Irvine Welsh, for example. And since when is Colombia located in Central America?
My favourite howler, though, is when she writes of Edinburgh that "most locals speak English, as well as the bizarrely charming Gaelic . . .", which would be news to Edinburghers, who live in Scotland; Gaelic is the indigenous language of Ireland.
Which is not to say that there isn't some solid information here and a few real gems. |
