An exhibition with the work of more than 50 Mexican artists titled: Long Live Life: Frida, opens September 14 at the Havana Cultural Center.
Havana, Cuba - The overwhelming artistic charisma of the late Mexican painter Frida Kahlo on the centennial of her birth and a varied representation of artistic work from the Mexican state of Zacatecas are among the highlights of the 2007 Mexico Culture Days to be celebrated in Havana from September 12 to October 5.

Under the suggestive title: A ribbon wrapped around a bomb, the Casa de las Americas Cultural Center will hold a colloquium September 12-14 on Frida Kahlo led by well-known Mexican art critics Teresa del Conde and Ida Rodriguez Prampolini with testimones from Arturo Estrada, Rina Lazo and Arturo Garcia Bustos, all students of the painter.

An exhibition with the work of more than 50 Mexican artists titled: Long Live Life: Frida, opens September 14 at the Cultural Center.

In addition, Mexican actress Ofelia Medina will travel to Havana to perform on the 21st and 23rd at the National Theater with a show titled: Everyone has their Frida, which combines excerpts from Kahlo’s diary and popular songs.

Likewise, an exhibition titled Homage to Mexico opens on September 12 at the National Fine Arts Museum with the work of David Alfaro Siqueiros, Jose Clemente Orozco and Diego Rivera, partner of Frida, who is also being remembered this year on the 50th anniversary of his death. The works are part of the Fine Arts Museum collections.

ART FROM ZACATECAS

Thanks to the Zacatecas state government, the Mexican foreign office, the Mexican embassy in Cuba and the Zacatecas Culture Institute, a rich and wide ranging exposition of Zacatecas arts will be shown in Havana.

Some of the groups to perform are the State Folkloric Dance Company of Zacatecas, el Mariachi Imperial, Zacatecana Tambora and the Jaraberos de Nochistlan. They will be joined at the Havana amphitheater by the Benenuti orchestra from the Mexican state of Queretaro.

The art exhibitions and performances will also include a mini film festival at the Chaplin Theater on the first five days of October.
