Playa del Carmen Proudly Presents the Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival 2007
Mexico's thriving film industry is at its peak with the upcoming Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival. Expected to be one of the biggest events of the season, the annual festival will be held from October 3 to 7, 2007 at selected cinemas around Playa del Carmen such as Ayuntamiento de Solidaridaridad, Plaza Pelicanos' Hollywood Cinema, and Plaza 28 de Julio.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico Only on its second year, the Riviera Maya Underground Film Festival 2007 is a celebration of short films and filmmaking showcasing the talents of renowned and promising filmmakers from around the world. It is set against the backdrop of Riviera Maya - Mexico's tourism district on the eastern side of the Yucatan Peninsula that includes Playa del Carmen. The festival will feature new works from local and international filmmakers as well as lectures, workshops, and forums on cinematography and filmmaking. Happening from October 3 to 7, films that will be shown are categorized under four categories, namely: Documentary, Fiction, Animation, and Experimental.

Some of the guests at this year's film festival will include Jonas Cuaron - the son of acclaimed director, Alfonso Cuaron - and Diego Catano, the actor who starred in two award-winning films, "Temporada de Patos" (Duck Season) and "Watching It Rain." A free and non-profit event, the five-day festival will also showcase films by non-profit organizations and Mexican universities as well as an exhibition of international, award-winning short films.
