SENTRI and FAST Lanes Help Business, Tourism and Security

According to a statement made by Ambassador Antonio O. Garza in Mexico City on December 4th, the new SENTRI and FAST lanes will expedite tourism and commerce along the Mexico-U.S. border, while enhancing security for citizens on both sides.
Statement made by Ambassador Antonio O. Garza in Mexico City on December 4, 2007:
"Today I was pleased to inaugurate, together with the Mexican Ambassador to the United States Arturo Sarukhan, Administrator General Juan Jose Moises Bravo of the Mexican Customs Agency, Nuevo Leon Governor José Natividad González Parás, and Thomas Winkowski, Assistant Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, two new lanes to expedite the travel of pre-cleared people and shipping of goods across the busy Mexico-U.S. border. These will help expedite tourism and commerce, the lifeblood of our border region, while enhancing security for our citizens on both sides."
"On Hidalgo International Bridge in Hidalgo, Texas, we inaugurated a new Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection lane, known by the initials SENTRI. This lane is reserved for the use of pre-cleared low-risk travelers who have registered with the SENTRI system. Each day, over 1000 people use the SENTRI lane at Hidalgo International Bridge to visit family and conduct business."
"The SENTRI system has been in use since 1995, and with the addition of the Hidalgo International Bridge, there are now eight border crossings that use it to prescreen travelers, reduce processing time, and shorten waiting time at border crossings. Its success is only possible because of a combination of advanced automated technology and close cooperation between U.S. and Mexican law enforcement officials."

"We also inaugurated the Free and Secure Trade lane, known as a FAST lane, on the Colombia-Solidarity Bridge between Nuevo Leon and Laredo/Webb County. The FAST program is a Border Accord Initiative between the United States, Mexico, and Canada that ensures security and safety while facilitating trade. With the inclusion of Laredo, this program is currently used at seven border crossings between Mexico and the United States. The FAST lane at Colombia-Solidarity Bridge is the second FAST lane for Laredo, the largest commercial inland port on the U.S.-Mexico border."
"Through FAST, Mexico, Canada and the United States have increased coordination of their processes for clearance of commercial shipments at the border. Companies wishing to participate in the program are screened for eligibility and must provide advance notice of their plans to cross the border. Participating trucks then have a seamless northbound crossing."

México, D.F., 4 de diciembre de 2007 – "El día de hoy, tuve el placer de inaugurar, junto con el Embajador de México en los Estados Unidos, Arturo Sarukhán; el Administrador General de Aduanas, Juan José Bravo Moisés; el Gobernador de Nuevo León, José Natividad González Parás; y el sub Comisionado de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza de los Estados Unidos (CBP), Thomas Winkowski, dos nuevos carriles para hacer más rápido el cruce de personas y bienes previamente aprobados en la concurrida frontera de México y los Estados Unidos. Estos carriles facilitarán el turismo y el comercio, elementos vitales de nuestra región fronteriza, y al mismo tiempo mejorarán la seguridad de nuestros ciudadanos en ambos lados de la frontera."
"En el Puente Internacional Hidalgo, en Hidalgo, Texas, inauguramos la nueva línea de la Red Electrónica de Seguridad para Inspección Rápida de Visitantes Frecuentes, conocida como SENTRI por sus iniciales en inglés. Esta línea está reservada para que la usen viajeros de bajo riesgo previamente evaluados que se han registrado en el sistema SENTRI. Cada día, más de mil personas utilizan la línea SENTRI en el Puente Internacional Hidalgo para visitar a familiares y hacer negocios."
"El programa SENTRI se ha utilizado desde 1995, y con la incorporación del Puente Internacional Hidalgo, ahora son ocho los cruces fronterizos que utilizan este sistema para preevaluar a viajeros, reducir el tiempo de proceso, y disminuir el tiempo de espera en los cruces. El éxito de este sistema sólo es posible gracias a la combinación de avanzada tecnología automática y estrecha cooperación entre agentes de procuración de justicia de México y de los Estados Unidos."

"También inauguramos la línea de Comercio Libre y Seguro, conocida como FAST, en el puente Colombia-Solidaridad entre Nuevo León y el área de Laredo y el condado Webb. El programa FAST es un acuerdo fronterizo entre México, los Estados Unidos y Canadá que garantiza la seguridad y facilita el comercio. Con la inclusión de Laredo, este programa se utiliza en siete cruces fronterizos entre México y los Estados Unidos. El carril FAST en el puente Colombia-Solidaridad es el segundo en Laredo, el puerto comercial terrestre más grande de la frontera entre México y los Estados Unidos."
"A través del programa FAST, México, Canadá y los Estados Unidos han aumentado la coordinación de sus procesos para autorizar el paso de embarques comerciales en la frontera. Las compañías que quieren participar en este programa son evaluadas y deben dar aviso previo cuando planean cruzar la frontera. Los camiones participantes cruzan hacia el norte sin mayor demora."
