New Life Giving Tree at Choco Banana
email this pageprint this pageemail usPVNN

A Christmas "giving tree" is set up at ChocoBanana, #147 Amapas at Pulpito, until December 21st to provide needed items for pregnant teens.

Puerto Vallarta - The holiday season conjures up thoughts of trees with lights, family gatherings, hot chocolate, children with beaming smiles and excitement; Santa, presents, cookies, and many other things. It is a time of year where we should also remember those less fortunate than ourselves. For those who have little, it is a time of sadness.

New Life Mexico (NLM), a British Charity based here in Puerto Vallarta, works with PAIDEA, a DIF (social services) program for pregnant teens and teen mothers. This year DIF are raising awareness in new colonias for this program, and therefore, the number of girls joining is increasing. This is seen as a positive, as they receive information about how to care for themselves and their children. NLM firmly believe that education and health are two main issues that help break the poverty cycle and therefore supports this program in these areas.

Your immediate thoughts might be to give a child of a teenage parent a toy for the holiday season, and this would be wonderful, however the stark reality is more basic items are desperately needed. This year NLM has joined forces with Choco Banana (147 Amapas at Pulpito, Romantic Zone) to provide you with an opportunity to help us with our "giving tree" for this program.

From Saturday 1st December through to Friday 21st December you can take a card from the tree and provide hygiene items for these families. You can either bring the physical items or take a card from the tree and leave funds for the items, which will then be purchased by NLM. A hygiene kit would normally contain a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, wash cloth, soap, comb (approximate cost of $130-160 pesos depending on the size of the items.) NLM is a small charity and appreciates all of the support we are shown. No donation is too small - one toothbrush is the difference between a child or a teen parent cleaning their teeth or not!

So please, spare a little time this holiday season to pop by Choco Banana and talk to Nikki or Marcelo and help us with the giving tree. Wishing you and all your family a Happy Holiday Season, and thank you again for helping NLM and the children of Vallarta.

New Life Mexico (NLM) is a British Charity (registered No: 1104138) that supports children and young people in Mexico who have been physically, sexually or emotionally abused.
