(In&Out Moments) | | The Chile's legacy lives on! When Hank Muffett and Conrad Kostelecky decided to close Chile's, their thriving lunch and early dinner restaurant on the south side of Puerto Vallarta, they realized that they'd be leaving a huge gap in the Olas Altas restaurant scene.
Turning to their good friend, Luis Alonso Téllez, a young entrepreneur who knew a good opportunity when he saw one, they agreed to help him create another enterprise to continue serving Chile's popular menu of homestyle North American specialties.
Going on the premise of "if it ain't broken, why fix it?" he acquired the original recipes and secured the services of Chef Valentín Anica, who had worked with Hank and Conrad for years, opening Picnic just a block away from the original restaurant's location in October of 2006.
For those familiar with Chile's, stepping into Picnic is like visiting an old friend. Luis and Chef Valentín present Hank and Conrad's tried and true menu of whole roasted chickens for $63 pesos, the best cheeseburger in town for $55 pesos, Chef's salads at $59 pesos, French Dip sandwiches $59 pesos, chicken salad $59 pesos, regular or BBQ chicken plates for $49-$59 pesos and side dishes such as potato salad, pasta salad or cole slaw for $12 to $24 pesos.
Add to that an expanded evening schedule, along with live music, cocktails and an increased dessert selection, and you'll see why Americans and Canadians [and other diners seeking good eats!] are flocking to this casual restaurant in the Olas Altas neighborhood.
