The 28th Caribbean Festival or Feast of Fire, held annually in the Cuban eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, will be dedicated in 2008 to the Mexican Caribbean.

Organizers of the event said on Monday that this year the festival will take place on July 3-9 and, as usual, it will be sponsored by the House of the Caribbean.

Organizers announced that Mexico will participate in the festival with a large delegation of nearly 600 people from Veracruz, Yucatan, Tabasco, Campeche and Quintana Roo.

One of the most interesting aspects of this year’s festival will be the presence of a women’s conga dancing group from Germany, directed by Dorotea Marx and comprised of some 20 dancers whose ages range from 13 to 60.

The presence of musical and dancing groups, researches, writers and artists from Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and the Dominican Republic is also expected.

As it has become a tradition, the International Colloquium ‘The Caribbean that Unites Us’ will also take place in Santiago de Cuba in parallel with the Caribbean Festival.
