US Airlines Suspend Flights to Mexico Prensa Latina go to original
Mexico City - The US company American Airline and its branch Eagle joined Delta, United Airlines and Continental in suspending their flights to Mexico, local media reported.
According to Notimex, the cancellation of 11 frequencies to several Mexican destinations by the two US companies is the result of high fuel prices, which have caused a rise in plane fares.
Notimex added that the cancellation of the US airlines' flights to ten Mexican cities and resorts will cause a drop in tourist arrivals in the country, and thousands of workers will be laid off.
American Airlines and Eagle alone will cancel 190 flights as of September, accounting for 12 percent of their operations on Mexican territory.
Delta will suspend 15 percent of its flights to Mexico, while United Airlines will cancel its daily flight from Chicago to the Federal District, and Continental will suspend its flights from Houston and Monclava to Coahuila.
The US airlines' measures will mainly affect three major Mexican cities - Federal District, Monterrey and Guadalajara - and the beach resorts of Acapulco and Puerto Vallarta, among others. |
