About Living Your Dream
email this pageprint this pageemail usBarbara Peters - PVNN

It may be rainy season, but there are still lots of things to do in Puerto Vallarta in July... summer camps for kids, great restaurants with live music and special summer sales at many shops and art galleries.

Galería Vallarta owner, Barbara Peters, shares news and events from the July edition of 'About Living Your Dream,' her monthly newsletter that encourages people to follow their dream of retiring in a paradise, as well as informing those who live or visit here about events they may enjoy.

Summer humidity surrounds us, the nightly rains have turned the mountains greener (the ones we can see by peeking around the tall condos,) and we enjoy the fresh, cool breezes that come after the rains. Vallarta is full of Mexican tourists and families seeking vacation fun before school starts again

There are not too many events to announce this month since it is hard to schedule outdoor concerts during rainy season, but there are still lots of restaurants with live music, special summer prices, and most of the art galleries are open for a stroll through their excellent selections of paintings, sculpture and folk art. You'll also find lots of values on craft and clothing items as stores reduce their prices for summer sales

El Arrayan, a popular Mexican restaurant at 344 Allende in downtown Puerto Vallarta, is hosting a special charity dinner on Saturday, July 12th, to raise funds for the Children of the Dump summer camp program. Music will be provided by Los Frijoleros. For dinner reservations, call (322) 222-7195

The camp starts on July 14, free to children living in the five Colonias surrounding the municipal dump, some of the poorest in Vallarta, and the children will learn art, computers, dancing and swimming, as well as participating in field trips. A single donation of $200 pesos will send one child to camp, so be sure to donate to this important charity. More information available from ArthurEFumeton(at)yahoo.com

There are several summer camps for children during July:

The Centro Cultural on the Isla Rio Cuale will offer workshops for children ages 6-12 on a variety of themes including music, theater, sculpture, body language, drawing, painting, yoga, break dancing, cartooning, and film

The Santa Barbara Theater will offer artistic courses from July 7 to August 8 in acting, dance, singing, theatrical make up, preparations for auditions and set design. Call 223-2048 for information

Sad News

We will all miss two Very Important People who passed away the past month and were an important part of the Vallarta scene

Jack Willis, who served as president of the International Friendship Club and was always present at cultural events with his wife, Irma, died at their home in Madison, Wisconsin

Rosie Sorenson, owner of the very popular Restaurant "Really Rosie's," and such a great cook, passed away on June 23rd in Hawaii, where she has lived since 2004. We all enjoyed her special events like "Christmas in July," and her "home cooking."

Weight Loss Urgency

As we see the tourists and locals walking around Vallarta, so many of them overweight and miserable (because the summer heat affects one much more if you are overweight,) we are appalled at the numbers who will face critical medical issues due to their condition

The popularity of fast, fat food and a sedentary lifestyle based on being seated most of the day and relaxing in front of the TV or computer at night has led to a population of people who look like the fat characters in the famous artist Federico Botero's popular paintings and sculptures

The saddest thing is to see the children and teenagers who are very obese and who will miss out on so much, and will also face serious health problems in the future. Attractive clothing is hard to locate for those who do not fit into the "slim norm."

Diets are very hard to follow in our "drive through, take out, eat-out society" with pizza, hamburgers and soft drinks the foods of choice for most, even to having this type of food served in the schools

The packaged foods are loaded with sugars and unknown ingredients and it takes an extra hour and a magnifying glass to read the tiny print on the labels of the food we buy. The best diet for maintaining a correct weight is made up of mostly vegetables, chicken, fish and lean beef - but that takes time to prepare and is not very popular with those addicted to fast food

A great alternative for healthy weight loss has now been introduced into Mexico and is available in Puerto Vallarta... namely the Nexagen Weight Loss Patch. It is completely safe, made of Herbal ingredients, and contains no products to cause nervousness

You just put on a patch a day to regulate your metabolism, curb your cravings and begin to lose inches and fat. The patch was the first one introduced in the U.S. and has had great success. There have been copies, but none contain the correct ingredients to get the results

You can get all the information about how to obtain the Nexagen patch at webart@prodigy.net.mx or at NexagenUSA.com

In addition to the benefit of losing unwanted weight, you can earn money by promoting the product to others who are in need of insuring their future health. Without good health, our wealth means nothing
