SCT Implements Measures Following Breakdowns at US Airports

Mexico City - Due to breakdowns in the US Flight Plan Processing Center that led to delays in the air operations at 40 US airports, the Secretariat of Communications and Transport (SCT) immediately implemented all the necessary measures for guaranteeing the safe transfer of passengers from Mexico to various destinations in the United States.

In keeping with the agreements established between the two countries for handling air operations, measures were implemented to adjust separations between flights to the United States to facilitate air traffic, while US operations were carried out manually to guarantee the same level of air security.

The corresponding measures were applied through the Head Office of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC) and Mexican Air Space Navigation Services (SENEAM), thereby guaranteeing the safety of Mexico-US flights, in which delays of just 30 to 90 minutes were registered.

The DGAC noted that air operations in Mexico were not affected by the breakdown registered in the United States. The Mexican Government helped solve the problem in that country through its controllers, who adjusted the speed of their flights in routes to US territory.

The situation will be restored to normal tomorrow, once all the north-south and south-north operations handled have been absorbed.
