Jones and Bartlett Becomes Publisher for the Mexican Red Cross Business Wire go to original
Sudbury, Mass. - Jones and Bartlett Publishers (J&B) entered into a long-term strategic partnership with the Mexican Red Cross (MRC). Through this global partnership, J&B and MRC will educate Spanish-speaking prehospital providers worldwide. Together, J&B and MRC will meet the growing demand for Spanish-language training materials in safety, emergency response, and rescue. As a result of this global initiative, Spanish-speaking first responders will now have access to the latest state-of-the-art emergency medical services training materials.
J&B and MRC will begin this initiative with the publication of the highly anticipated Spanish-language edition of Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured. Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured is the gold standard EMT-Basic training program. Originally published in 1971 by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and now in its Ninth Edition, this text has shaped the field of emergency medical services throughout the English-speaking world.
Over forty years ago, the AAOS' Committee on Injuries recognized the absence of training for ambulance drivers, many of whom were driving funeral home vehicles. So in 1971, the Committee on Injuries created the AAOS' most successful text, Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured. Some 35 years later, the Ninth Edition is still authored by the AAOS and has been published by J&B since 1997. Together, the AAOS and J&B ensure that Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured continues to be the definitive text for EMS education worldwide.
Now J&B and MRC will make this flagship text available to the Spanish-speaking world. On November 13-14, 2008 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico during the MRC's annual conference, Series Editor Andrew N. Pollak and Publisher Kimberly Brophy will reveal the plans for this groundbreaking project, which is scheduled to publish in September 2009.
"Jones and Bartlett's global recognition as a provider of world-class content, along with our extensive experience in international partnerships, helped open the door to this opportunity," remarked Clayton Jones, CEO of J&B. "We are pleased to bring J&B's unique vision and expertise in EMS publishing to the Mexican Red Cross."
"The Mexican Red Cross is delighted to be working with a publisher of Jones and Bartlett's caliber," said Mr. Ruiz, General Director of the Mexican Red Cross. "J&B has set a new standard for publishing in the EMS field and their knowledge and reputation have made them the best choice for the MRC."
Additional programs published under this global partnership will expand beyond EMT-Basic training and address the growing demand for Spanish-language first responder training materials worldwide.
