Dialogue during Donation to Teletón 2008 by President Calderón and Family Presidencia de la República go to original
| President Calderón and Family | | Hello. Good morning.
Thank you Lucero Fernando and friends of Teleton and friends from all over Mexico.
I am delighted to be here with my family to support Teletón with our donation. I have my only personal donation but also that of several collaborators in the Presidency and Federal Government, who have made their deposits and others who have given them to, which I will deposit in a little while.
I would like to urge all Mexicans to support this important, noble, humane campaign, which is one of the most noble causes in Mexico: The Teletón.
We should remember that all human beings are equal, that we are all created equal, that we have the same dignity and rights and that we are all responsible not only for our destiny but for others' too.
And all human beings and children have the right to be happy and the right to know that society as a whole will help them and create the conditions that will enable them to be fulfilled, which is why we are pleased to support Teletón and know that all Mexicans support Teletón.
LUCERO: All Mexicans should support Teletón.
As the President says, which makes it an order, so to speak. So we can and will be able to achieve our goal although we have several millions to go to reach our goal tonight.
But there are several promises that will be fulfilled, Fernando, if we reach our goal. I am going to hand you the microphone.
FERNANDO LANDEROS: Yes of course, Mr. President, I am very grateful to you; Margarita, thank you for being here with your family.
I think that this contribution and the fact that you are accompanying us as head of the country, together with your family, is a great honor.
I think that this country is made up of generous, loving families, like yours, of which you are setting an example.
This is a program of values, as we mentioned earlier and you have mentioned something vital, which is the dignity of all human beings.
When people make a donation to rehabilitation, Teletón hopes they will do it to enhance people's dignity. And disability involves people's dignity.
I would like to thank you for being here, from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for the support you have given us from the start.
PRESIDENT FELIPE CALDERÓN: Thank you.
MRS. MARGARITA ZAVALA GÓMEZ DEL CAMPO: I would also like to ask all Mexicans to help. Teletón also helps other foundations and organizations. And especially Veracruz and Durango at this particular time.
It is a way of telling disabled children and their parents that we love them and want to have them with us.
LUCERO: Thank you again for your support, and your presence and your donation.
I don’t know whether you will be going to make your deposit at the bank right now, as an example of a very humane, generous Mexican. And if there are families that have not been to the bank yet today, you can go with your children and nephews and neighbors for Mexico and make the children who need this so happy.
PRESIDENT FELIPE CALDERÓN: Yes, we'll do that and I would like to say hallo to all the Teletón children and all those in several centers around the country who are watching us.
And I would like to repeat what Lucero has said, let’s go out and make a donation, regardless of how little you may think it is, it all helps. Most donations come from very simple people who give a little of what they have.
Perhaps you can give a little more this month, when you get your Christmas bonus. Sometimes in December we spend on things that are not so important, such as giving a girl the chance to walk or a boy the chance to play and learn. That is what is really important, that is priceless and all Mexicans can do that today, well, not only today, but especially today, with the Teletón.
So let everyone give so we can reach the goal. |
