Survey Says: Mexico is a Safe Destination Nicole Feenstra - Canoe.ca go to original
| There are many rumors around the world about the safety of traveling in Mexico. This video offers real testimonials from real people who are currently enjoying spring break in one of Mexico's top vacation destinations - right here in Puerto Vallarta | | With the Government of Canada's travel advisory and the tourist bus crash this week, the media is all a buzz about the safety of travel to Mexico yet again.
I've always taken the stand that if you play smart while on vacation - don't get overly drunk, don't flash your bling in public - you'll have no problems. Any destination can become an "unsafe" one if you put yourself in an unsafe situation.
In light of this, the Mark Travel Corporation surveyed vacationers who recently returned from Mexico to gauge how they felt about their safety and experience.
More than 900 responses were received from travellers who took a vacation to Mexico between October 2008 and March 2009. The results were positive, with 97 per cent of those surveyed indicating they would return to Mexico for another vacation and 90 per cent of all respondents agreeing to the statement "I felt safe and secure."
Nine per cent of travellers indicated they felt unsafe at some time during their vacation in Mexico and less than 1 per cent of respondents felt unsafe while on the resort property.
The majority of respondents vacationed in Cancun/Riviera Maya, the most popular leisure destination in Mexico. Other respondents vacationed in Puerto Vallarta, Cozumel, Los Cabos, Ixtapa, Acapulco and Mazatlan.
"The survey respondents confirmed Funjet's position that Mexico continues to be an amazing, safe and fun vacation destination. The results should give other travellers confidence to plan a Mexico vacation," stated Mike Going, President of Funjet Vacations. "The concentration of drug cartel violence that caused the [government] to update the alert is hundreds, and in some cases thousands, of miles away from Cancun, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta and other main tourist areas." |
