President Felipe Calderón Meets with Representatives of the Tourism Sector

The President explained that in the context of the international economic crisis, his government has taken several measures to support families' incomes and strengthen firms that create jobs.
Mexican President Felipe Calderón met with representatives of the tourism sector to analyze the effects of the health contingency caused by the Influenza A/H1N1 virus.

During the meeting, held at the official Los Pinos residence, the businessmen hailed the president’s leadership during the health crisis and submitted a diagnosis of the country's current air transport and the tourist industry as a whole, in addition to suggesting means of helping it recover.

In the course of his address, the president provided an overview of the Influenza A/H1NI virus and Mexico's economic situation. He said that his government is working hard to encourage the promotion of national and international tourism in Mexico. He added that the US travel advisories have been lifted and that campaigns are being launched to promoted Mexican tourist destinations.

The President explained that in the context of the international economic crisis, his government has taken several measures to support families' incomes and strengthen firms that create jobs as well as investing an unprecedented amount in infrastructure. It has also provided credits for Small and Medium Firms, and created the Job Preservation and Temporary Employment Program, among others.

The tourist sector was represented by: José Luis Barraza González, President of the Board of Directors of Aeroméxico; Fernando Senderos Mestre, President of the Board of Grupo Dine; José Chapur Zahoul, Director General of Grupo Palace Resort; Eduardo Sánchez Navarro, President of Promotora Cabo Real; Pedro Aspe Armella, President of the Board of Volaris, and Director General de Protego Asesores; Ernesto Coppel Kelly, President of the National Board of Tourist Businesses and President of Hotelera Pueblo Bonito; Miguel Alemán Magnani, Executive President of Interjet, of the Miguel Alemán Foundation and Controladora Corporativa; Gastón Azcárraga Andrade, President of the Board of Grupo Posadas and Mexicana de Aviación; Pablo Azcárraga Andrade, Vicepresident of the Board of Directors of Grupo Posadas and Francisco Mijares Noriega, President of the National Chamber of the Industry of Restaurants and Spiced Foods.

During the meeting, President Calderón was accompanied by the Secretaries of the Economy, Communications and Transport and Tourism: Gerardo Ruiz Mateos, Juan Molinar Horcasitas and Rodolfo Elizondo Torres, respectively.
