Puerto Vallarta Returns to Normal Following Flu Outbreak

In Puerto Vallarta, all businesses and tourism-related services continue to operate normally and have implemented strict sanitary measures recommended by federal health authorities in order to safeguard the health and well being of all visitors and residents.
On May 18, 2009, the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board reported that of all the suspected Type A H1N1 influenza cases under investigation in the state of Jalisco, no cases have been confirmed in Puerto Vallarta to date, as reported by Mexico's federal Secretary of Health, Dr. José Ángel Córdova Villalobos.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention also announced on Friday, May 15, that it was removing its warning against all non-essential travel to Mexico and downgrading it to a travel precaution.

The governor of the state of Jalisco, Emilio González Márquez, announced on May 12 the resumption of activities at all businesses in 98 municipalities of the state, including Puerto Vallarta, where there has been no evidence or confirmed cases of the H1N1 influenza virus to date, while continuing to take every necessary measure to comply with sanitary preventions dictated by federal health authorities.

In Puerto Vallarta, all businesses and tourism-related services continue to operate normally and have implemented strict sanitary measures recommended by federal health authorities in order to safeguard the health and well being of all visitors and residents. These include hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, shopping centers, movie theaters, golf courses, museums, the botanical gardens, etc.

The celebrations marking Puerto Vallarta's anniversary (91 years as a municipality and 41 years as a city) will go ahead as planned on May 31. All other mass cultural events have been cancelled for the month of May. Normal schedule of events will resume in June.

Sports events, including the 7th Vallarta International Soccer Cup, which was scheduled to take place May 13 to 17, and the International Sport Classic, May 15 to 17, were held as planned.

The Third Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit, scheduled for the month of May has been rescheduled for June 10 to 15, 2009; and the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2009 Qualifier CONCACAF Puerto Vallarta, initially scheduled for April 27 to May 3, has also been rescheduled to take place from June 17-21.

The International Women's Beach Volleyball Tournament will be held as planned, June 10 to 14, and the Third Norceca Beach Volleyball Circuit has been rescheduled for October. The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup 2009 Qualifier CONCACAF (North and Central America and Caribbean region) Puerto Vallarta, initially scheduled for April 27 to May 3 has been rescheduled. The tournament will be held in Puerto Vallarta from June 17-21, 2009.

Puerto Vallarta Restaurant Week 2009 is being held as planned, continuing through May 31. Visitors can sample special prix-fixe menus ranging from $179 to $299 Mexican pesos ($14 to $23 USD) at 36 participating restaurants.

MPM Meeting Place Mexico, a trade show for corporate meetings and conventions, will be held as planned, June 7 to 9, in the new Puerto Vallarta International Convention Center.
